Creating Lab Requests

Doctors create lab requests from consultation:

  1. Click Order Lab Tests in consultation
  2. Select test category (Hematology, Chemistry, etc.)
  3. Choose specific tests
  4. Add clinical information and notes
  5. Set priority (Normal, Urgent, Emergency)
  6. Submit request

Sample Collection

Collection Process

  1. View pending sample collections in Lab Dashboard
  2. Call patient or go to bedside (IPD)
  3. Verify patient identity
  4. Collect appropriate sample type
  5. Label sample with barcode/ID
  6. Mark sample as collected in system
  7. Transport to laboratory

Sample Types

  • Blood (venous, arterial, capillary)
  • Urine (random, midstream, 24-hour)
  • Stool
  • Sputum
  • Swabs (throat, wound, etc.)
  • Body fluids (CSF, pleural, etc.)

Result Entry

Entering Results

  1. Select the lab request from processing queue
  2. Enter result values for each test parameter
  3. System automatically flags abnormal values
  4. Add technician notes if needed
  5. Submit for verification (if required)
  6. Mark request as completed

Abnormal Values: Results outside normal reference ranges are automatically highlighted in red for easy identification by doctors.

Lab Dashboard

The lab dashboard provides an overview of all laboratory activities.

Dashboard Features

  • Pending sample collections queue
  • Tests in processing
  • Completed tests awaiting verification
  • Turnaround time statistics
  • Priority indicators (urgent/emergency)
